Appendix 3. Changing Defaults - Sizes, Colours, File Locations.

Sizes

Changing the dimensions of your units under "This Design" - "Room Settings" will only change the settings for the current design. When you start a new design, the values under "Room Settings" will revert to the defaults.

To change the default sizes, click "Special" - "Edit current room system ini". The settings will vary depending on the room system.

Once you have made changes click the "Save" button at the bottom of the window. Click "Cancel" to ignore any changes you have made.

Changes will take effect when you start a new design.

Colours

File Locations

WARNING - you will need to edit configuration files to change the default locations. Changing values within these files may stop your ArtiCAD system from working correctly. You are strongly advised to make a backup copy of the configuration file before making changes.

Kitchen designs are saved in a folder called "plans" within the "kitchen" folder which is itself within a folder called "articad". Bathroom designs are saved in a folder called "plans" with the "bathroom" folder and so on.

An increasingly common situation is to save designs onto a shared network drive or server. It is possible to configure ArtiCAD to look to this network drive by default.

Exit from ArtiCAD before editing configuration files.

Edit the relevant configuration file.

Kitchens
c:\articad\kitchen\kitchen.ini
Bathrooms
c:\articad\bathroom\bathroom.ini
Bedrooms & Home Studies
c:\articad\bedroom\bedroom.ini

Within the configuration file, search for an entry "PlansDirectory". The line should look like this:

PlansDirectory=plans

Change it to the location you wish to become the new default. For example:

PlansDirectory=S:\kitchen_plans\

Where "S:" is a mapped network drive and "kitchen_plans" is a folder on that shared drive.

You may also wish to change the default location for your page layouts. Alter the value "PageLayoutsDirectory". For example:

PageLayoutsDirectory=S:\kitchen_layouts\
